Reachable Buyer Map: Europe

Prepared for Jean-Pascal Marquie · Nipro · European market · August 2026
The group's published product lines land in two very different rooms: clinical and procurement people inside hospitals and dialysis providers, and technical people inside pharmaceutical plants. Below are the roles in each, the segments they sit in, roughly how many companies are in each segment across Europe, and where the openings are. It describes the market rather than your business, and there is nothing to buy at the end of it.
Hospitals and public health providers
The largest group by count and the slowest to move, because most of the volume is awarded through tender. That pushes the useful contact months earlier than the buying decision, into the window where the specification is still being written.
Who signs: procurement category manager, head of supply chain, the clinical lead for the specialty, and the tender office on public contracts.
12,000 to 15,000
hospitals across Europe including the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the Nordics; public and private, all sizes
Dialysis providers and renal units
The count understates this one badly. A large share of European dialysis capacity sits inside a small number of provider groups, so one group decision covers hundreds of sites and the independent units are a separate, longer list.
Who signs: nephrology lead, dialysis unit manager, medical director, and group procurement director at the chains.
4,500 to 5,500
dialysis facilities across Europe; a meaningful share of them sit under a handful of provider groups
Pharmaceutical manufacturers and fill-finish sites
A completely different buying system from the two above. Changing a primary container is a regulatory event rather than a purchasing one, which lengthens the cycle and makes early presence worth far more than a sharp offer at the end of it.
Who signs: head of packaging development, primary packaging engineer, procurement category lead, and the quality function on qualification.
3,500 to 4,500
authorized medicinal product manufacturing and import sites across the European Economic Area
Contract development and manufacturing companies
Small by count and unusually leveraged, because they specify on behalf of their own customers. One qualified relationship here can carry several unrelated products, and it survives the loss of any single one of them.
Who signs: business development director, head of technical operations, sourcing lead, and the site quality head.
500 to 800
European contract development and manufacturing companies handling sterile or injectable formats
Home care, infusion and community providers
Where hospital discharge policy is pushing volume, and the least organized group on this page. Buying is regional, fragmented and often sits with a clinical manager rather than a procurement function, which makes it slow to reach and quiet once reached.
Who signs: clinical director, regional purchasing lead, home therapy manager, and the owner at independent providers.
No clean European register
home and community care providers file under national social care codes, so this group is reached by name and by national association rather than counted
National distributors and dealers
The segment that decides how the smaller markets get covered at all. These are named accounts rather than a volume list, and the relationship is with a handful of people inside each one.
Who signs: managing director, product manager, and the tender specialist.
2,000 to 3,000
companies registered across Europe as wholesale distributors of medical and surgical equipment

Where the openings are

1
Two buying systems, one company name. Clinical procurement inside a hospital and technical procurement inside a pharmaceutical plant share nothing: not the role, not the cycle, not the language, not the evidence they want. Most outbound picks one and quietly abandons the other. Running both is a build problem rather than a headcount problem.
2
Tenders reward whoever was already there. By the time a specification publishes, the room has already decided what good looks like. The reachable moment sits several months before that, and it is only reachable if something is contacting the whole set of hospitals and providers on a schedule rather than the accounts already on somebody's key account list.
3
The packaging buyer is the most reachable person on this page. A few thousand sites, named roles, long memories and very low turnover in the specifying seat. That combination is rare, and it is the one segment where a patient named-account motion beats volume outright.
4
The distributor markets are a naming problem. Two to three thousand companies across Europe, most of them small, almost none of them on anyone's target list, and the decision inside each one sits with one or two people. Reaching them is tedious rather than difficult, which is exactly why it stays undone.
Built from public market data covering European health care facilities, licensed manufacturing sites and registered distributors, current to the most recent published year. Counts are banded deliberately. Facility registers are maintained country by country and are not perfectly consistent, so these figures describe scale rather than an exact roll call. One segment above is not enumerated in any public source and is described rather than counted.
